Normandy has set bold goal of becoming the gateway of north-western Europe.
For this purpose, Normandy has undertaken major civil engineering projects such as:
Port 2000: a bold project that will turn the Le Havre Port into Europe’s hub
Le
Havre Port is being outfitted to double container
traffic and facilities are being built to accommodate
the biggest container-carrier ships.
North-Seine Canal: the river system will connect to Europe
A wide clearance canal project enabling much heavier barges to reach Europe’s big economic hubs (Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany, Central and Eastern European countries) from the Seine River.
Fastship: fast maritime connection between France and the United States
A regular line of high-speed container-carrier ships running from Cherbourg to Philadelphia in seven days - A project for high-value-added merchandise with tight delivery schedules.
Freight railway connection bypassing the north of the Ile-de-France region
Modernisation of the Motteville to Montérolier-Buchy section of the line: the first link in the great north-east railway bypass of the Ile-de-France region, for the freight coming from Le Havre Port, among others.
Fast Normandy-Seine Valley connection
The hook-up of the regional area to the European high-speed train (TGV) network and to Roissy airport, without any bulk break, ensuring improved transport time.
A28 Highway: connection to the Trans-European network, detouring the Paris Region
The
Rouen-Alençon route is part of the A28
highway that completes the fast connection between
northern and southern Europe via Calais and Bayonne.
